A Canadian study has ranked the most excruciating pain a man can feel. Below is the bite of a terrifying little ant.
The pain it can cause is far from proportional to its size. According to a ranking by Canada’s McGill University, based in Montreal, the McGill pain indexOne of the most terrible sufferings that man can experience is the bite of the ant Paraponera clavata. Also known as bullet ants, their long sting would be more effective than snake venom or that of the most fearsome scorpion.
The reason ? It contains overwhelming toxins which quickly lead to muscle contractions and excruciating burns, leaving the body motionless for hours. According to scientists, it takes 24 hours for the body to eliminate this toxin.

To create this classification of the most terrible ailments, the Canadian researchers relied on the visual analog scale (VAS), which allows prioritizing what one feels from 1 to 10, from the mildest to the most unbearable pain.
And they found that amputating a finger or giving birth without an epidural is less painful than being bitten by this tiny insect. Even renal colic caused by a urinary tract obstruction and perceived as particularly painful would be less unbearable.

Fortunately, this species of ant lives only in the tropical forests of South America. At least for now.
