Half of the NHL wanted Kuznetsov, but he is going back to Russia

According to reports, no fewer than 15 National Hockey League (NHL) teams showed interest in Evgeny Kuznetsov, but he ultimately turned his back on North America.

For a little over a week, there have been numerous rumors about a contract with SKA Saint Petersburg. However, they have been proven, because according to Russian media MatchTV, the 32-year-old ice hockey player will arrive in the city on Friday and will then sign a four-year contract with SKA.

Earlier this week, his agent Shumi Babayev told RB Sport that 15 NHL clubs were interested in Kuznetsov’s services. His former team in the Continental League (KHL), Chelyabinsk Traktor, had also tested the waters.

The former Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes players should have the opportunity to play in Saint Petersburg with Canadian prospect Ivan Demidov from Montreal, who has resumed team training, according to photos released Thursday.

Last Wednesday, the Canes placed Kuznetsov’s name on a waiver to terminate his contract, making him a free agent.

In his career in the Bettman circuit, the 26th overall pick in the 2010 draft has collected 575 points in 743 games. He won the Stanley Cup with the Capitals in 2018 and led his team with 32 points in 24 playoff games.
