Haiti: Canada will support the PNH in the fight against insecurity

Haiti National Police Director-General Frantz Elbé chaired a meeting with West Department police chiefs to discuss new measures to strengthen security in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area. The meeting, which took place on Thursday, July 6, was attended by members of the National Police High Command.

As part of efforts to strengthen security, the PNH will receive financial support from Canada. The Canadian government has announced US$100 million in aid to strengthen the Haitian police’s capacity to fight rising crime.

The command meeting allowed police officials to share expertise and develop strategies to address security challenges in the Haitian capital.

The planned measures include intensifying patrols, strengthening cooperation with other security authorities and using modern technologies for surveillance and crime prevention.

This joint initiative by the National Police and the Canadian government aims to strengthen security in Port-au-Prince and restore citizens’ trust in law enforcement. Transparency is also required as the audiovisual department “Allô la Police” has to produce a detailed report of the meeting in order to inform the public of the measures taken to ensure their safety.

By joining forces, the PNH and Canada want to show their determination to fight crime and keep residents of Port-au-Prince safe. This international collaboration bolsters local efforts to create a safer environment in the Haitian capital, a place where the United Nations is seeking to create an international intervention force to help the country better address the problem of insecurity.
