OTTAWA, July 14, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Today, ahead of World Youth Skills Day, Skills/Skills Canada (CSC) is pleased to announce that the Canadian Government will be donating more than $27 million to CSC over the next five years as part of the Canadian Learning Strategy. These funds will be used to further the rewarding careers available to our nation’s youth in the fields of crafts and technology.

Skills/Comténces Canada offers young people hands-on experience in crafts and technology through its many programs and events, including its flagship event, the Canadian Skills and Technology Olympics (CSNC). This event features more than 40 craft and technology competitions with more than 500 participants from across Canada. Over 13,000 guest students attended OCMT 2023 Winnipeg, which is a record. Through its events and programs, SCC connects young people and inspires them to discover and explore the many exciting and lucrative careers in these industries.

With 700,000 skilled workers projected to retire this decade, this investment comes at a critical time, said Shaun Thorson, CEO of SCC. We are grateful for the Government’s continued support of CSC’s efforts to build tomorrow’s workforce in the skilled trades.

Young people want to be involved in building Canada’s future. With the nature of work changing rapidly, funding like today’s will help young people acquire the skills they need to make the most of all the career opportunities available to them in the skilled trades, said Minister CarlaQualtrough for employment, human resources development and inclusion of people with disabilities.
