GM partners with Quebec company FLO to install 40,000 charging stations in Canada and the United States – L’annuel de l’automobile

General Motors wants to keep its promise to only sell vehicles by 2035. To do this, the American giant announced yesterday that it intends to install no fewer than 40,000 Tier 2 charging stations in the United States and Canada by expanding its community charging program for retailers.

Not just for GM customers

This program was announced late last year and to date nearly 1,000 traders have joined. However, the first community charging stations were only installed in Michigan and Wisconsin. The program was initially limited to Chevrolet dealerships but is set to expand to Buick, GMC and Cadillac dealerships next January. The program aims to further expand the charging network, particularly in often-overlooked rural and urban areas where EV charging is currently very limited or non-existent. The stations will also be open to non-GM customers.

A GM dealer less than 15 km from the house

Ninety percent of the population of North America lives within 10 miles of a GM dealership. GM, which says it is already very involved in community activities, is adding another mainstay with this charging network, which is accessible to all. They are well positioned to identify locations that are expanding access to EV charging, including small businesses, entertainment venues, schools and other popular destinations.

A Quebec company as a partner

GM has partnered with FLO, the Quebec EV charging company, as a charging station supplier and each dealer can receive up to 10 19.2kWh charging stations. FLO takes care of the installation process, which makes sense as they are an expert in the field. FLO will also be involved in other aspects of home electric vehicle programs with future electric vehicles such as: B. the provision of accessible and reliable charging methods for home use and a comprehensive public infrastructure.
