The ministry said the death occurred in Lebanon, but did not provide further details in an update on Sunday evening.

It is said 130 Canadians left Gaza through the Rafah crossing on the border with Egypt after it reopened to foreigners this weekend. Since the border opened to foreigners, more than 600 Canadians have been able to cross.

Global Affairs also warns that Canadians and their families should expect delays and closures without notice at the Rafah border crossing due to the unpredictable situation.

Seven Canadians and one person with close ties to Canada were killed in the first Hamas attack in Israel, which killed around 1,200 mostly civilians on October 7.

A Canadian remains missing but has not been identified by Global Affairs.

The Israeli military said on Sunday its ground offensive had expanded to all parts of the Gaza Strip and ordered the evacuation of more areas in and around the region's second-largest city, Kahn Younis.

Heavy shelling attacks were reported overnight and on Sunday in Khan Younis and Rafah, where Israel says many Hamas leaders are hiding.

Israel promised that its efforts in southern Gaza would be “no less powerful” than its attacks in northern Gaza.

Many of the territory's 2.3 million residents are being pushed south after Israeli forces ordered civilians to leave the north at the start of the two-month-old war.

According to Global Affairs' latest update, there are currently 5,674 Canadians registered in Israel on Canada's overseas list, 426 in the West Bank and Gaza Strip and 17,994 in Lebanon.
