From the rare visit to Toronto

After enjoying a day off on Monday, the Toronto Blue Jays return to action tonight at the Rogers Center and host a rare guest from San Francisco.

The first game of the three-way series against the Giants will be televised on TVA Sports from 7 p.m.

The Giants’ last presence on Canadian soil was in April 2019.

The Toronto side are aiming for a third straight win after beating the Oakland Athletics in the last two games of the series, the last of which by a comfortable 11 points (12-1).

The Jays need to keep going if they want to make the playoffs. Unfortunate enough to play in the strong East Division of the American League, they sit fourth despite a respectable 43-36 (.544) record. The Jays are currently a half-game behind the New York Yankees (43-35) for the last drafted team. They would therefore miss the playoffs if they started today.

For their part, the Giants (44-34) are just 2.5 games away from first place in the National League West Division held by the Arizona Diamondbacks (47-32).

Kevin Gausman (7-3) will be the Jays’ starting pitcher tonight. In the Giants camp, Ryan Walker (2-0) will start the game on the mound.
