François Legault sends a Valentine’s Day card to journalists

In an attempt to build bridges with reporters in Parliament’s press gallery, Prime Minister Francois Legault sent them a Valentine’s Day card.

Since the election campaign, there have been moments of tension in François Legault’s relationship with journalists. At the end of the last parliamentary session, the prime minister refused to hold the usual press conference to assess the situation. Mr Legault also did not send out the Prime Minister’s traditional Christmas card to members of the press.

Since then, the CAQ communications team has repeatedly openly criticized the work of certain journalists on social networks.

In his Valentine’s Day card, François Legault tackles the subject head-on and with a humorous tone.

“There are often tense moments in any relationship. If we talk openly to each other, we can overcome obstacles and let love grow. And in a relationship, it’s also normal to be curious and ask questions,” reads the greeting card.

The Prime Minister’s press secretary, Ewan Sauves, explains that this Valentine’s Day card is a “wink” to remind us that Mr Legault has “huge respect” for the work of journalists.

“We have had many comments from members of Parliament’s press gallery in recent weeks that Mr Legault has not sent out Christmas cards this year. The disappointment was great and that surprised us. So we decided to send out Valentine’s Day cards to remedy the situation,” he added.

The sending of these cards is an initiative of the media team in the Prime Minister’s office. “When we pitched the idea to Mr. Legault, he jumped at it!” hinted Mr. Sauves.
