Foreign workers are a proven solution to counteract the labor shortage within the Saguenay company CONFORMIT.

The computer software company began recruiting overseas five years ago.

We started with France and are mainly targeting French speaking countries. We have many of them in Tunisia and Madagascar and also Togoersstressed President Éric Desbiens in an interview on the programme It’s never the same.

Today, 20 employees come from outside, which corresponds to a quarter of the CONFORMIT workforce.

Within a year, 15 more workers will set foot on Canadian soil. They are already hiring the company that opened an office in Tunisia to give them the opportunity to work remotely while awaiting immigration procedures.

If we want good workers, they have to be happy. So you have to make sure that they have a comfortable environment and are accepted.

Éric Desbiens believes that taking the time to do things well is important for families to integrate.

For families, that’s 60 to 65 people. Integration takes two to three weeks, but rooting means helping them make friends, build a social network, and be acceptedexplains Mr Desbiens.

Like many employers, Éric Desbiens has to cope with the housing shortage that makes hiring difficult.

We are now building rental properties. It’s a new business model, I’m a technician, I’m not a real estate developer, it’s a new challengeadmits Mr Desbiens.
