From February 26th to March 5th, AS Fabrègues will host a delegation of young Canadian players. Thomas Leveque, head of 11-a-side football at Club Hérault, has confidence in this project.
Thomas Leveque, how did this project come about?
It was Jonathan Makaya, who played in the region for a long time before going to Canada, who contacted me on social media a few weeks ago. He was looking for a club in the region that would welcome him and the young people he coaches. I was immediately interested in the opportunity to discover something different and see how football and training work in Canada. For young people and for us, educators and managers, it is always enriching to learn new methods and see what is being done elsewhere.
Especially since Canadian football has taken on a whole new dimension in recent years.
Exactly. Canadian football is in full development as we have seen on the international stage in recent years. What is interesting is that this allows us to see how they work and what methods they have. Whether it’s the Canadian delegation or us at Fabrègues, we all have lessons to learn from this type of initiative.
How will this journey develop from a football point of view?
We will welcome this delegation in the second week of the February holidays. The youngsters will have three training sessions during the week and also take part in internal ties and a friendly. Off the pitch, Jonathan has also planned to take her to various football and non-football activities. I know that they will go to the MHSC training center and visit the city of Sète. Beyond the sport, it is very important that they have fun and make the most of this stay.
Can we imagine young people from AS Fabrègues going to Canada in a few months?
I might be projecting myself a bit too much, but I’d certainly love to organize this project in the opposite direction. I know it takes a lot of time and a lot of organization in terms of logistics, but if we had the opportunity to go there and see what’s happening in Canadian football from the inside, it would really be a great opportunity for us and for us our youth. Maybe next season, we’ll see in due course.
