The departure is imminent. The Operations Center for Interdepartmental Crisis Management (COGIC), the commanding body for civil crisis management in France, has put its regional headquarters on alert to deploy a detachment of firefighters to Canada.
Since the beginning of the year, 2.7 million hectares have already burned in Canada, eight times more than the average for the last three decades. According to Canadian authorities, as of 9 p.m. this Sunday there were 214 active fires, including 93 out of control, a scary time, according to Prime Minister Tim Houston.
Authorities fear the fight against the fires will be prolonged due to the dry weather and record temperatures expected in the coming days. The Prime Minister said last Wednesday that the province of Nova Scotia was facing an unprecedented crisis and would accept any assistance possible
What French reinforcements?
According to data from Forest firesAs confirmed by two sources close to the Interior Ministry, a hundred firefighters would leave Marseille this Tuesday or Wednesday for a period of three weeks without any relief.
Profiles wanted include; Forest fire managers (FDF 5 and FDF 4), squad leaders (FDF 3), personnel trained in helicopter operations, tactical fire managers and team members, or even equipment managers (FDF 2) and forest fire team members (FDF 1). This department would also be accompanied by doctors and firefighters.
In addition, no vehicle would be sent. Only experienced women and men with their forest firefighting gear and equipment.
