File Jean-François Houle: Radio silence on the Laval rocket

The Laval Rocket announced last week that assistant coach Kelly Buchberger will no longer be with the team next season.

However, it wasn’t the news we expected from Laval.

As of Wednesday, May 22, it is still unclear who will be the team’s head coach next season. Jean-François Houle, who has led the team for three years, does not have a contract in his pocket for next season and we do not yet know the intentions of the Montreal Canadiens team in his case.

There is radio silence.

Reflecting on the Rocket’s season last April, which ended with them not making the playoffs, Houle expressed interest in continuing his unfinished work with the team.

“It has not yet been decided. “We will take a step back and hold a meeting with the organization in the coming weeks,” he announced on April 21. My wish is absolutely to come back. I love the people I work with and I want to come back.”

A month later, there was still no development on the matter. This is often a bad omen for someone trying to keep their job.

In addition, the rumor mill is already running about a possible successor.

First, the name of former CH striker and current player development consultant Paul Byron was mentioned. There is also that of Drummondville Voltigeurs head coach Sylvain Favreau, who is preparing to take part in the Memorial Cup tournament with his team.
