Félix Auger-Aliassime will wear the Canadian colors

The Canadian team competing in the Davis Cup Finals will count on Quebec’s Félix Auger-Aliassime, she announced on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old, who was defeated by Britain’s Jack Draper in the second round of the still-running US Open, will join compatriots Alexis Galarneau, Vasek Pospisil and Gabriel Diallo in the round robin played simultaneously from July 13 to 18 cities of Bologna, Hamburg, Glasgow and Valencia; The Maple Leaf players will progress in the latter and find themselves in Group B along with Spain, Serbia and South Korea. The top two countries in each section qualify for the final stage, which takes place in Malaga from November 21-27.

The Montreal native will be part of the Davis Cup team for the fourth time in his career. He took part in his first game of 2019 against Slovakia in a qualifying round, beating Norbert Gombos in the deciding clash to earn Canada a spot in the final.

Auger-Aliassime is eighth in the ATP Tour rankings. In addition to this competition, he will compete in the Laver Cup from September 23rd to 25th under the colors of the World Team.
