Félix Auger-Aliassime hopes to revive his season

Félix Augier-Aliassime admits his season hasn’t gone the way he wanted it to so far.

Illness, injury and early setbacks in competitions have all played a part.

However, the Quebecer says he’s feeling good mentally and hopes to put a facelift on his season.

“It’s definitely not the season I was hoping for,” he said from Paris. Luckily for me the season is not over yet.

Knee injuries hampered his performances at Miami, Dubai and Indian Wells.

He was also beaten in the first round at Wimbledon where he was 11th seeded.

At the Australian Open, he lost in the fourth round.

It wasn’t easy for the one who finished sixth at the ATP in November 2022.

I’m mentally fine,” said Auger-Aliassime. I am positive. I had time to be at home and train. I tried to improve in the knee and find out where the problems come from and solve them for the future.

If I can get the physical side back on the field, I know the results will come back. I’ve gotten to know myself better over the years.

The 22-year-old from Montreal remains the top Canadian at the ATP with a 12th place.

For now, according to Auger-Aliassime, the focus is on staying mentally strong as he continues to work towards securing a top 10 finish.

Mentally, of course, there are ups and downs. You don’t feel so safe every week. But I feel mentally stable, I’m fine. I’m very focused and motivated. I have confidence in my abilities.

He will soon be in action at the Citi Open in Washington where he will be fourth seed. From there he will compete in the National Bank Open in Toronto.

Auger-Aliassime wants to turn the tide in front of a partisan audience at a tournament he never won. There he lost in the quarterfinals in 2022.

“It’s always an important tournament, apart from the Grand Slams of course,” he mentioned. It’s still important. As a player, it’s always nice to win in front of a home crowd. It’s nice to win in Canada. I hope to win this tournament in my career.
