That year, the provincial high court ruled on the doctor’s negligence in treating a woman with a fractured femur postoperatively (New window) (in English).
British Columbia Court of Appeals (New window) demanded Dr. Hicks also ordered more than $360,000 in damages for negligence when he treated a boy who broke his arm in 2006.
At the time, young Max McKee was under the care of the surgeon at Langley Memorial Hospital. His arm bones were not properly replaced before he was immobilized in a cast, leaving the boy with a lifelong deformity, the court ruled.

Over time, complaints about the practice of Dr. hicks. In the last 10 years, 7 civil lawsuits were brought against the doctor and resulted in mutual agreements.
In response to most lawsuits, Dr. Hicks blamed any negligence and described the care he provided as reasonable and standard.
However, in one case in 2016, he admitted to performing hip surgery on a woman who actually needed knee surgery.
Through her attorneys, Tracy Hicks declined all interview requests.
In 2000, the surgeon made the front page Vancouver sun, as part of an investigation by journalist Rick Ouston. The case centers on the death in 1997 of a young woman, Heidi Klompas, who broke both her legs after being hit by a drunk driver in Surrey.
dr Hicks was on call when the young woman was taken to Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock but didn’t arrive until seven hours later.
The girl’s mother, Catherine Adamson, wonders 25 years later how the doctor’s inaction affected her daughter’s death just weeks after the accident.
According to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia, (New window)the surgeon is not restricted in his practice. A spokeswoman, Susan Prins, reports that Dr. Hicks has signed a voluntary commitment to limit his professional activity to surgical assistance and administrative work.
A spokesman for Fraser’s health authority added that the doctor no longer enjoys his privileges to perform surgical procedures at Langley Hospital or other hospitals in the area.
