Calgary — Enbridge (TSX:ENB) announced Tuesday that it has signed a $14 billion cash and debt deal to purchase three U.S.-based utilities.

The Calgary-based energy infrastructure giant says the three utilities owned by Dominion Energy are East Ohio Gas Company, Questar Gas Company and associated Wexpro companies, and Public Service Company of North Carolina.

Enbridge said it will fund the transaction with a combination of $9.4 billion in cash and $4.6 billion in assumed debt.

The Canadian company expects the deal will double the size of its natural gas supply business and help balance its asset split between natural gas, renewables and liquids.

Enbridge says its post-transaction natural gas supply business will be the largest by volume in North America, with a combined tariff basis of more than CA$27 billion and approximately 7,000 employees delivering more than 9 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day to approximately seven million customers.

The deal is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close in 2024.
