The announcement that trade defenseman Mattias Ekholm was sending to the Oilers left many Canadiens fans cold, who were hoping the Alberta team would turn to Montreal and Joel Edmundson to improve their defense.
“We can forget about Edmundson in Edmonton. There’s no doubt about it,” Tony introduced Marinaro on Tuesday night’s JiC show.

“The Oilers wanted to add a big defender for the playoffs. And they made the right choice considering Ekholm is a better full-back than Edmundson.”
Jean-Charles Lajoie, on the other hand, came just a few seconds later with an interesting statement about number 44 in CH.
“I’ve been told there are four or five teams interested in his services. Edmonton was the lot and was among the most active clubs on the file. But there are other fish in the pond.”
To get their hands on Ekholm (32, 18 points in 52 games), the Oilers traded defenseman Tyson Barrie, forward Reid Schaefer, and first- and fourth-round picks for the Predators.
Joel Edmundson, 29, has six points in 39 games this season.
