This day is important to both celebrate our majestic planet and to remind us that several actions can be taken to do our part.

Here is a list of things every citizen can do to contribute to a healthy planet, according to Valérie Mallamo:

  • Prioritize sustainable mobility: Walk or take public transport before turning to the petrol-powered car.
  • Favor foods that don’t have too much of an impact on the environment: eat local, reduce meat, eat more vegetables, etc.
  • Rethink your consumption: Ask yourself, “Do I still need it” or “Can I fix it?”
  • avoid waste
  • Take care of your recycling
  • Support organizations in the fight against climate change

However, Ms Mallamo argues that the most urgent need is to mobilize as a society. “We have to make systemic gestures, but that is the government’s role. I therefore invite citizens to demand concrete changes in society from elected officials.”
