Dylan Strome quickly found his feet with the Washington Capitals, scoring twice in the 3-1 win over the Flyers in Philadelphia.
Strome joined the Capitals this summer on a one-year, $3.5 million contract. He had spent the last three seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks. He also had 22 goals in 69 games last season.
Connor Brown also flashed the red light for the Capitals and also got an assist for Strome’s last goal. Kevin Hayes provided the local favorites with a response.
Two former Montreal Canadiens, Zachary Fucale and Charlie Lindgren, shared the duties in front of the Capitals goal. The former allowed one goal on eight shots, while the latter saved all 13 pucks aimed at him.
Logic respected in Columbus
At Nationwide Arena, the Columbus Blue Jackets had no problem beating the young Buffalo Sabers 4-1.
Several former first-round picks crossed swords in this duel, including Jack Quinn, Jiri Kulich and Isak Rosen for the visitors and Kent Johnson, David Jiricek and Denton Mateychuk for the hosts. The Jackets, however, sent more veterans into the fray and thrived.
Defender Andrew Peeke, who signed a contract extension earlier in the day, was an accomplice to the first goal of the game, scored by Emil Bemstrom. Kirill Marchenko then in turn rang the cannon in a massive attack.
Outnumbered Jakub Voracek and Carson Meyer completed the ranking.
The Sabers’ only reply came from Chase Priskie’s stick. Former Habs defender Kale Clague was given an assist for the game.
Eric Comrie winced four times in 31 attempts in defeat.
Daniil Tarasov allowed Buffalo’s only goal while Jet Greaves perfected with 13 shots.
