The district communityinverness is preparing a redesign of its electoral map, but none of the proposed options involve a regrouping of Acadian communities, as called for by the Société Saint-Pierre, the spokesperson organization for the region’s Acadian population.
These are the communes of Grand Étang, Saint-Joseph-du-Moine and part of it Margaretesays Lisette Aucoin-Bourgeois, general director of the Saint-Pierre Society.
At the municipal level we are divided in two. If we were in the same district, we would have a much better chance of securing a French-speaking vote on the municipal council.
explains Lisette Aucoin-Bourgeois during an interview granted to the show on Friday Revival Nova Scotia and NLby ICI Acadie.
” We are neighbors, we work together on projects, but when we speak on a political level, it would be good if there was one representative speaking on behalf of all Acadian regions. »
The Société Saint-Pierre took part in the consultations on the redesign of the electoral card and clearly expressed its desire for a regrouping of the Acadian communities, stresses Ms Aucoin-Bourgeois.
But that would have resulted in an above-average population density in the municipality. That’s exactly why it didn’t work
She says.
Société Saint-Pierre, she adds, intends to carefully review the reallocation report and discuss strategy until the next public meeting on the proposed changes, which will be held in June.
For its part, the Fédération acadienne de la Nouvelle-Écosse wishes to create a protected provincial constituency for the Acadian communities of the region, as is the case for the Isle Madame and South-West regions of the province.
