Former Montreal Canadiens forward Devante Smith-Pelly retired from his hockey career at the age of 30 in an Instagram post on Friday.
As a result, Smith-Pelly will have played his final professional games in the Laval Rocket jersey last season while failing to find a place in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the past four seasons. From 2019 to 2020 he also spent time in Russia.
The highlight of his career is certainly winning the Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals in 2018.
“Throughout my career I’ve had the highest peaks and the worst troughs,” he wrote. I’ve been able to travel to places I never thought I’d see and play alongside and against some of the best players in the world. I’m so proud to say that a kid from Scarborough, Ontario, [soit devenu] a Stanley Cup champion. I will be eternally grateful for my experiences.”
Smith-Pelly played for the Habs for just over a year in 2015 and 2016. He had seven goals and 15 points in 66 games. He was acquired by the Anaheim Ducks for Jiri Sekac before being traded to the New Jersey Devils for Stefan Matteau.
In his career, Smith-Pelly has 44 goals and 101 points in 395 games with the Ducks, Canadiens, Devils and Capitals.
