(AFP) – Canadian director Jean-Marc Vallée, author of the film “Dallas Buyers Club,” has died at age 58, his agency said Sunday.
“Rest in peace, Jean-Marc Vallée. The world is a lot less interesting without you,” wrote agency Hive Communication Collective on Instagram.
The film “Dallas Buyers Club” (2013) was nominated for an Oscar and won an Oscar for actors Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto.
The Quebec director recently won an Emmy for his HBO show “Big Little Lies” (“Little Secrets, Big Lies”) and was also praised for “Sharp Objects.”
According to American media, Jean-Marc Vallée died suddenly in his home near Quebec City.
HBO said it was “shocked by the news of his sudden death.” “Jean-Marc Vallee was a brilliant and conscientious director,” she added in a statement published by The Hollywood Reporter.
“Jean-Marc focuses on authenticity and doing things differently,” said his co-producer Nathan Ross in a press release. “The maestro will be missed, but it is comforting to know that the beauty of his style and the power of his work will outlive him.”
