David Savard expects a discussion with Kent Hughes

As the trade period begins in the National Hockey League (NHL), David Savard's name is resurfacing in certain rumors.

The main interested party commented on the situation in an interview with Jean-Charles Lajoie on Tuesday.

“These are not things I listen to. I don't really follow rumors and stuff like that. If it's going to happen one day, it's going to happen. I am sure the news will not be unexpected. I'm pretty sure we'll have a conversation with Kent Hughes first. I don’t have to worry about that.”

However, the Quebecer admits that he wants to continue the adventure with the Montreal team.

“Right now I'm in Montreal and I want to stay there. I like what we have as a group. I like the way the team is developing. I want to contribute to the success of this team. We'll see if I can stay, but it's out of my control. I won’t waste my time on this.”

The defenseman is still a valuable asset to the Canadiens, as evidenced by his team's 8-6-3 record in uniform.

“Maybe it's a coincidence, but that doesn't matter. I just try to do everything I can to help the team win. I think everyone has good performances. I'm just a small part of everything. If everyone does their job, we give ourselves a chance to win. That’s what I try to do when I’m on the ice.”

If Savard is so useful to his team, it is also due to his talent for blocking shots. He has no problem suffering if it helps his team win.

“It still hurts, but it's not serious. It's part of my job and I've been doing it for a long time. You get used to it and at the same time the medical team does everything to make sure I'm ready for every game. There were small additions that had to be made over time. We have to continue to do that if we want to win. We have no choice.”
