On Friday morning in Vancouver during the final conference of the Union of Municipalities of British Columbia (UBCM), provincial Premier David Eby announced the release of budget amounts totaling $85.75 million. Affected areas include living space, forest fire fighting and even patient transport.
Of this amount, the British Columbia government has decided to allocate the majority, $61 million, to municipalities to provide them with more resources for housing construction.
The Prime Minister recalled the context in which this announcement was made. The population in the province is growing rapidly and that requires a whole range of answers: education, health, housing [notamment].
We must work together to address this housing problem
I said that municipalities need to move faster in building housing, and when I said that, some of you said to me, “That’s easy for you to say, but what is the provincial government doing?” in this process?” People come to you and ask you a lot of things. You can’t do any of this if you don’t have the resources

Another announcement from the province’s premier: $4.75 million to allow firefighters to more effectively fight wildfires in rural areas.
This announcement comes as the province is experiencing the worst wildfire season in its history.
One of the lessons learned is that there is a strong desire for help from people who have experience fighting wildfires. We want to improve the skills and capacity of these volunteers so that they can be more effective in fighting fires.
said David Eby.
The money will be used in particular to finance training and provide equipment.
The Prime Minister announced another budget package that also affects rural areas. The medical transport sector will therefore benefit from the financial support.
A total of $20 million will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society and Flights of Hope to ensure that people diagnosed with cancer can benefit from medical transportation and reach the various necessary facilities for their treatment.
In his speech on Friday morning, David Eby repeatedly reiterated the provincial government’s desire to work closely with local communities.
He assured, without giving a timetable, that the promised money would be available quickly. It’s up to you to decide where to deploy it and where your communities need it most
he concluded.
