The Thetford Assurancia of the North American Hockey League (LNAH) drafted former Montreal Canadiens color defenseman David Desharnais on Saturday.
Thetford Mines targeted Desharnais in the ninth round at 58e total choice.

However, the Laurier-Station native had announced that he would be retiring from professional hockey. He spent the last four seasons of his career with Fribourg-Gottéron in the Swiss National League, the premier league championship of this European country. Before moving to this Swiss club, he spent a season in the KHL at Avangard Omsk, then coached by Bob Hartley.
Desharnais played on the Bettman circuit for nine seasons. He also played for the Edmonton Oilers and the New York Rangers. The 36-year-old athlete, who was never drafted, played 524 major league games and amassed 282 points or 87 goals and 195 assists.
