Canadiens forward Evgenii Dadonov’s situation has been a hot topic in recent days, whether it’s because of the club’s nebulous justifications for his absence or manager Martin St-Louis, as reporters insisted on knowing a little more about him.
Because in summary, Dadonov, who the organization doesn’t seem to rely on too much, was initially left out last Saturday before contracting a virus (apparently) a little later, which didn’t prevent him from staying at the club’s entourage and training center of the week to finally see his name on the injured list on Thursday.
Certainly, given all the Habs’ activities, the Dadonov file is not of paramount importance. The fact remains, however, that the club manages to do it quite strangely, with a questionable lack of transparency.
The host of the “La Dose” podcast, Jean-Philippe Bertrand, was a little annoyed when the Dadonov file was mentioned in the Friday program.
In his opinion, the journalists were right to question St-Louis a little more forcefully on this issue. And he didn’t like that some of the team’s supporters thoughtlessly took the manager’s side on social media and then threw stones at journalists who were again accused of endangering the well-being of their favourites.
“We don’t work for the Canadians. We work for you,” he first recalled to the audience and the public in general.
“We are the transmission belt between the club and the public,” he said. Stop thinking we’re against you or against the Canadians. We’re here for you. A chance that there are many journalists who scratch to get to the bottom of the truth.
“We agree that the Dadonov file is a trivial offense in human history,” said the host. But in the case of the scandal that hit Hockey Canada, it was goddamn lucky that a journalist named Rick Westhead started to think something was wrong with that file.
Otherwise, “Hockey Canada would continue to operate the way it has always operated and we would still have the means to silence cases of sexual assault and nothing would have changed.”
Obviously, the Hockey Canada file is “the ultimate case” of a scribe who did a good job of scratching Jean-Philippe, but the Dadonov file still deserved a little search.
“The journalists wanted to scratch so that you understand, know the real reason for his absence,” he repeated. And to this day we don’t know and it’s very, very nebulous.
