Could Kent Hughes hit a home run in the next draft?

The Canadian could possibly be able to get his hands on two future Quebec stars to help rebuild the team.

We already know that the attacker Pierre Luc Dubois wants to leave the Winnipeg Jets and join the Canadiens to continue his career. The situation does not look rosy Alexis Lafreniere in New York and he’s in the third row behind some of the team’s star forwards as fans seem to be growing impatient that he’s producing at a higher rate in his case.

And if KentHughes used the situation to hit a home run in the draft?

In conversation on the waves of BPM sportthe animators Maxim van Houtte And George Laraque have released a plan for the Canadiens’ GM for the next draft in Nashville in June.

The plan would look like this:

1. Suggest Panthers 1st round pick (17th overall) plus a B prospect or two for the Winnipeg Jets in return for Pierre-Luc Dubois, considering they don’t have the big end of the stick in negotiations at the moment.

2. Assuming the Canadian’s position in the draft does not change, the New York Rangers are offering the CH pick in the 1st round (5th overall) in return for young striker Alexis Lafrenière in a one-on-one.

Thus, CH would emerge from the draft with two young Quebecers who are established in the NHL and poised to become future star players in the league in exchange for draft picks that will take several years to develop. These two transactions would go exactly in the direction announced by the CH CEO at his last press conference.

  • 21 years old, Alexis Lafreniere is a former first-round pick (1st overall) in 2020. He has a record 16 goals and 23 assists for 39 points in 81 games this season. He was in the last year of his rookie contract and will be a restricted free agent this summer.
  • 24 years old, Pierre Luc Dubois is a former first-round pick (3rd overall) in 2016. He has a record 27 goals and 36 assists for 63 points in 73 games this season. He was in the final year of his contract and will be a restricted free agent this summer.

Would you accept these comparative offers?

Would you be happy if KentHughes announced that swap on the draft floor and eventually brought two big players from Quebec with huge potential to Montreal?
