COP15: 12 demonstrations but no arrests according to SPVM report

At the close of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15), the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) takes positive stock of its interventions to ensure safety during this world-class event.

“Due to its international nature and the short time that the SPVM and its partner organizations had to prepare, the COP 15 represented an enormous challenge for the organization. This success is due to the high level of preparation of the SPVM and the cooperation with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), which was responsible for the coordination of the Integrated Security Group (GIS), as well as several other attributed partners, notably the Montreal Police Department, via press release.

Despite the holding of 12 demonstrations against COP15, everything went peacefully. No arrests were made in connection with these demonstrations, but two investigations into wrongdoings against companies were launched.

To ensure security and prevent vulnerable populations, daily patrols were conducted around the Palais des Congrès and the Old Brewery Mission.

The SPVM wanted to highlight the collaboration of the different police forces, but also of their partners such as the City of Montreal, the Municipality of Ville-Marie, the Société de Transport de Montréal and Urgence-Santé.
