Colleen Swords is a retired federal agent. She worked in the Departments of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Indigenous and Northern Affairs, and Canadian Heritage for over 35 years.
From 2014 until her retirement in 2016, Ms. Swords served as Deputy Secretary of Indigenous and Northern Affairs, a position she was appointed to after serving as Deputy Secretary of Canadian Heritage and Deputy Deputy Secretary of Indigenous Affairs from 2009 to 2014 .
Prior to this role, Ms. Swords spent 29 years at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade where she held a variety of senior positions including Deputy Minister, Department of International Security, Ambassador of Canada to the Netherlands and Permanent Representative of Canada to the Organization for the Chemical Weapons Ban and Canadian High Commissioner for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean.
A graduate of Brock University, Osgoode Hall Law School and the Europa Institute at the University of Amsterdam, Ms. Swords is a member of the Ontario Bar.
