Collaboration: Mélanie Joly, Canadian Foreign Minister on a working visit to Abidjan

During a 48-hour working visit to our country, Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, was personally received this Monday, August 19, by the Minister Delegate of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Integration and Ivorians Abroad, HE Wautabouna Ouattara.

During this tête-à-tête, which took place in the meeting room of the Cabinet of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Ivorians Abroad, the discussions between the two ministers focused on bilateral cooperation between the two countries as well as regional news received from was shaped by the security situation in the Sahel region and its impact on the entire West African region.

At the level of bilateral cooperation, Minister WAUTABOUNA welcomed Canada’s constant support for the development of our country. Regarding the security issue in the Sahel, Minister Delegate Wautabouna Ouattara and Canadian Foreign Minister welcomed the convergence of views of their respective governments on several issues of interest.

Following this meeting, a ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Ivorians Abroad of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire and the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) took place in the banquet hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ivorians Abroad.

This framework agreement between Côte d’Ivoire and the Canadian Commercial Corporation aims to strengthen cooperation between the two nations both at the government level and in the private sector of both parties in various areas of activity such as infrastructure, transport, energy and information and communications, health, Education, housing, agriculture and green technologies…

It should be noted that Bafetigue Ouattara, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ivory Coast to Canada, as well as HE Anderson Blanc, Ambassador of Canada to Ivory Coast, took part in these various activities.

During her visit, the Canadian Foreign Minister will hold working sessions with several members of the government, including the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene and Universal Health Coverage, the Minister of State and the Minister of Defence.
