The Ottawa Senators are off to a rough start to the season, despite good players like Brady Tkachuk, Alex DeBrincat and Claude Giroux, and it could mean the end of coach DJ Smith’s time at the team bar for many.
Smith may have been given a reprieve with his men’s win Wednesday night against the Buffalo Sabers, despite team general manager Pierre Dorion said Tuesday that the coaches are not involved in the failures of the “Sens”.
However, should Smith’s luck change, Dorion would have no shortage of options to replace him. In that regard, one name seems obvious to some: Franco-Ontarian Claude Julien, who remains unemployed after being fired by the Montreal Canadiens in 2021.
“He’s next,” columnist Tony Marinaro told JiC on Thursday.
“If they replace their coach in Ottawa, it’s actually Claude Julien who will be there,” he added.
In his opinion, the experience of Julien, who won a Stanley Cup in 2011, is a crucial factor. The fact that he coached young players in Boston is important, as is the fact that he knows Dorion well and is from the area.
Before him, host Jean-Charles Lajoie had a completely different opinion, believing that Julien does not go well with the current edition of the Senators, which consists mainly of young players hungry and determined to show off their qualities.
