CH: “Casey DeSmith has great fears at the moment”

For mere mortals, National League hockey players are just one way to have fun. Life goes by fast, people are busy and sport helps them relax a little and serves as a kind of escape.

During an evening with friends, sentences like “I would trade this guy, me!” come to mind. or “We should buy his contract!” are commonplace. Sometimes it really does feel like listening to a conversation about video game characters.

But the big news: Ice hockey players are real. And despite their favorable salary conditions, they also have periods of lull and phases in which the fear is great and difficult to overcome.

The Canadiens currently have three goalies in their ranks whose caliber is “NHL-level”: Samuel Montembeault, Jake Allen and… Casey DeSmith, who the team recently acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins. Logically, there’s a good chance one of the three won’t be in Montreal for the first game of the regular season.

And according to our journalist Anthony Martineau, DeSmith is going through this period of uncertainty with some difficulty.

“I have been told that Casey DeSmith and his wife are experiencing great anxiety at this time,” Martineau tweeted Sunday afternoon.

“She is due in the next few hours/days and is still in Pittsburgh. The guardian is waiting to find out under what circumstances he will have to relocate his small clan.

“CH is open for business”

For many, the 32-year-old goalkeeper appears to be the ideal candidate among the three CH goalkeepers to leave Montreal. After all, he has never played there and has not spoken to the media since the transaction involving him was announced.

Without denying that possibility, Martineau nevertheless went there with a publication that was both interesting and intriguing on the subject.

“Montreal seems to be ‘open for business’ on their goalkeepers’ record, I’ve just been told as well.” Still undecided, the club would listen carefully and give the impression that they were looking for the most profitable path for them.

In 38 games with the Penguins last season, Casey DeSmith had 15 wins and a .905 save rate.
