The singer Celine Dion announced Thursday that she has a rare neurological condition called Moersch-Woltman Syndrome (stiff person syndrome or stiff person syndrome).

In a video posted on his social networks (New window)She states that she has been battling the disease for years and that this prevents her from performing on stage. For this reason she has decided to cancel or postpone many concerts of her international tour.

I have had health problems for a long time and it is not easy for me to deal with them. It makes me very sad to announce that I will not be ready to start my tour in Europe again in February. said Celine Dion. I always give 100% at my concerts, but I’m not in the condition to do that at the moment. I have no choice but to focus on my health and I am confident that I am on the right track.

A rare disease

Moersch-Woltman syndrome affects about one in a million people and causes muscle spasms in the lower back, abdomen and/or legs.

This can affect the way a person walks and their balance, making them prone to falls.

Unfortunately, these cramps affect all aspects of my daily life and sometimes cause difficulty in walking. says the singer.

She also said her condition affects the way she sings. It doesn’t allow me to use my vocal cords to sing like I’m used to.

Celine Dion regularly consults her doctors, including a therapist who specializes in sports medicine.

It’s not the first time the singer has had to cancel shows for health reasons. In January 2022, she had to cancel shows in North America due to severe and persistent muscle cramps.
