Caufield holds the keys – TVA Sports

The Canadians’ forward Cole Caufield has been on fire since the start of the season, including since Martin St-Louis was at the helm of the team last February, and while his entry deal expires the youngster will make a significant decision in that regard until to do at the beginning of the next season.

The issue was raised several times on Wednesday’s JiC show, as presenter Jean-Charles Lajoie believes Caufield’s decision literally holds the keys to the organisation’s sporting future. Basically, will Caufield now sign a long-term deal in Montreal like Nick Suzuki recently did, or will he sign a shorter deal that ends once he’s able to play autonomously without compensation?

In that regard, according to Jean-Charles, “several questions hang in the air” about the 21-year-old.

“He’s an American, does he want to play at home again or is he ready to spend most of his career in Canada?” the host initially asked columnist Tony Marinaro.

“Is he willing to take less money to respect a certain hierarchy at Suzuki and almost ensure he arrives quickly in the ‘window of opportunity’ to win the Stanley Cup?” he added.

“He holds more than one key to the mystery of Canadians for the next few seasons,” the host finally concluded.
