Caufield finally unlocks the World Cup

It took a while, but Cole Caufield finally managed to shake things up on Friday at the World Cup in the Czech Republic, twice instead of once.

In fact, the Canadian striker from Montreal, representing the United States, scored his first two goals of the tournament in a 4-1 win over Poland.

The 1.75 meter tall player met Polish goalkeeper John Murray before taking advantage of a clever pass from Brady Tkachuk early in the third period and scoring his first goal of the game.

About halfway through the fight, No. 22 did it again, blocking a return shot from Tkachuk. With his two successes of the day, Caufield has now scored two goals and as many assists for four points in five games.

The Ottawa Senators captain was present in all the matches against Poland. Not only was he involved in Caufield’s two goals, but he also provided an assist for the first goal of the game, scored by Michael Kesselring. Tkachuk then doubled his team’s lead in the final minute of the second period.

The only Polish answer came from Grzegorz Pasiut’s stick. Murray, meanwhile, made 53 saves. Trey Augustine, who was automatically in front of the American net, saved 20 of the 21 shots he faced.

Overall, the United States is in second place in Group B with 10 points, two fewer than Sweden, which is in first place.

Caufield and his teammates will face Kazakhstan on Sunday.
