The host

Alexandre Tharaud is a rare artist: versatile pianist, writer, artistic director, his passion for music enlivens him with a creativity that feeds his universe from baroque music to contemporary repertoire. Contemporary music occupies a significant place in Alexandre Tharaud’s repertoire, with the creation of Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen’s left-hand concerto, Left, Alone, accompanied by the WDR Orchestra in 2016, revived with the CBSO, DR SymfoniOrkestret and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. This was followed by Oscar Strasnoy’s Kuleshov for piano and chamber orchestra, which premiered in Canada in June 2017 with Les Violons du Roy. He is also the dedicatee of Outre-Mémoire, Le Visage – Le Coeur and L’Oiseau Innumerable by Thierry Pécou, Gérard Pesson’s Piano Concerto (2012) and has created three cycles for solo piano: Hommages à Rameau, Hommage to Couperin and Piano Lied.

The biggest halls host him regularly: Théâtre des Champs-Elysées (Paris), Musikverein (Vienna), Carnegie Hall (New York), Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires)… and now plays regularly in Asia as well as at festivals. : BBC PROMS, Edinburgh Festival, Aix-en-Provence, La Roque d’Anthéron… At the Philharmonie de Paris, Alexandre Tharaud is invited every year to plan a weekend of concerts (Domaine Privé, Satie, Rachmaninov, etc.) . Alexandre Tharaud is also a soloist with renowned orchestras: in America, in Asia, in Europe and notably in France for the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France. And all this under the direction of renowned chefs such as Georges Prêtre, David Zinman and Yannick Nézet Séguin.

His numerous recordings include concertos by Haydn, Mozart and Bach (with Les Violons du Roy), Autographe (a collection of encores), Le Bœuf sur Le Toit, Scarlatti, Journal Intime (Chopin) for ERATO.
