The Montreal Canadiens lost exclusive rights to three prospects by not offering them an entry-level contract in the National League before June 1.
While CH recently signed Jared Davidson to ensure they would keep him in their squad, defenders Miguël Tourigny and Petteri Nurmi and attacker Cedrick Guindon did not have the same considerations.
Of all of them, it was Guindon who was drafted earliest by the CH during the 2022 selection session in the 4th round (127th overall).
The 20-year-old Ontario native failed to impress the team after a season that saw him record 57 points, including 26 goals, in 68 junior games with the Owen Sound Attack – statistics that are lower than those he compiled in each of the previous two years.
Tourigny, a small defenseman at 5’8″, spent last season with the Trois-Rivières Lions and never played a game for the Laval Rocket of the American League. He was taken in the seventh round (216th overall) in 2022.
Nurmi, 22, hasn’t broken a bone in the last two seasons in Finland, so it’s no surprise that he didn’t receive an offer. The Helsinki native was selected by the Habs in the seventh round (194th overall) in 2022.
