Establishing a mixed healthcare system, where mini-hospitals would be independent of the government, as is currently the case in Sweden and France, would be desirable, Canadians believe. This is determined by a IPSOS survey On the question.
“If Canadians are still afraid of the abuses of the American system, they are willing to experiment with mixed models like those of France and Sweden,” says economist Emmanuelle Faubert of the Montreal Economic Institute (IEDM). In the Quebec context, this shows that there is a clear mandate for the CAQ’s independent mini-hospital project.
Survey results show that the population considers the massive reinvestments in health in recent years to be ineffective, while 33% believe that these reinvestments have harmed rather than improved the health system. In this context, an independent mixed healthcare system would better meet the needs.
“It’s clear that Quebec and Canada are ripe for one restructuring of the healthcare systemespecially using independent operators, provided access remains universal,” concludes the MEI economist.
