Several interceptions have taken place during Operation Neon, a United Nations (UN)-led sanctions mission against North Korea, which are believed to be taking place “on a regular basis,” the ministry told Global News.

“What we can confirm is that during this latest iteration of Operation Neon, Canadian forces were intercepted by People’s Liberation Army air forces,” a spokesman said in an email to the media.

These interceptions are always carried out “safely and professionally,” the ministry said.

The Canadian Forces deployed last September with HMCS Vancouver and a CP-140 Aurora aircraft.
