(Calgary) Ivanie Blondin, Connor Howe, Isabelle Weidemann and Ted-Jan Bloemen won a gold medal at the Canadian Long Track Speed Skating Championships on Friday.
In the first women’s 1000m event, Ontario’s Blondin won in a time of 1:15.62. It was his second medal of the championships after winning bronze in the 3000m on Thursday.
Maddison Pearman and Carolina Hiller completed the podium.
“I was really happy with the result,” Blondin said. It was a good race. I want to try and cover as many distances as possible without exhausting myself too much and I’ve shown that I can do that and still perform well internationally, so I’m really looking forward to that. I can’t wait to get back on the road, even though it will definitely be a long, long journey. »
Isabelle Weidemann, also from Ontario, won the women’s 5,000m race in a time of 6:56.28. Weidermann won silver in the women’s 3000m race on Thursday.
Quebec’s Valérie Maltais, reigning Canadian 3000m champion, landed on the second step of the podium with a time of 6:58.77.
In the men’s event, Connor Howe won the first men’s 1000m race after winning silver in the 5000m race.
Quebec’s Laurent Dubreuil took silver, finishing the event in a time of 1:08.08. Dubreuil won gold in the 500m on Thursday, a day after winning gold in the 500m.
In the men’s 10,000m, Bloemen claimed his second consecutive championship title thanks to a time of 13:06.95.
