Ottawa — Banks across the country will observe a minute’s silence Monday in honor of Queen Elizabeth II but will remain open for regular business, the Canadian Bankers Association said Monday.

According to the association, banks are committed to providing the essential services Canadians rely on.

She encouraged customers to contact their bank for more information on opening times and services.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that Monday will be a public holiday for government officials to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral in London.

British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador followed suit, announcing closures of government offices and schools, while Manitoba will close all non-essential government services and offices while schools remain open.

The governments of Saskatchewan, Ontario, Alberta and Quebec have indicated they will not declare a public holiday for the Queen’s funeral.
