Canada strongly condemns North Korea’s ballistic missile launches, including the recent launch of a suspected ICBM.
That’s according to a press release published on Canada’s Foreign Ministry website on Friday.
“Canada strongly condemns North Korea’s worrying military activities in the vicinity of the DMZ,” the statement said.
Canadian diplomacy adds that “these flagrant actions, which endanger the lives of civilians, further destabilize regional and international security and do not contribute to peace.”
Canada insists that “North Korea must honor its international obligations, including United Nations Security Council resolutions, and strive to find a peaceful solution through diplomacy and dialogue.”
Ottawa also emphasizes its “determination to support efforts to create a nuclear weapons-free world and to remain committed to North Korea’s denuclearization and support international action to respond to that country’s illegal and aggressive actions.”
“We stand in solidarity with the peoples of Japan and South Korea and support their efforts to promote a more stable, peaceful and prosperous Indo-Pacific region,” the statement concluded.
As a reminder, Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly, during a trip to Japan in mid-October, reached an agreement with her Japanese counterpart Hayashi Yoshimasa on a “Canada-Japan as a contribution to a free and open Indo-Pacific region”.
