Canada will be without several Gold Cup star players

Alphonso Davies, Jonathan David, Cyle Larin, Tajon Buchanan, Alistair Johnston, Atiba Hutchinson and Ismaël Koné will not make the transition from the Canada side that took part in the CONCACAF Nations League to the one that will take part in the Gold Cup.

The 47th FIFA candidate lost 2-0 to 13th-placed USA in the Nations League final in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

He will start his journey against Guyana or Guadeloupe on June 27 at Toronto’s BMO Field. He then travels to Houston to complete the group stage with duels against Guatemala and Cuba.

Guadeloupe and Guyana meet Tuesday in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with the winner advancing to the main event.

Canada manager John Herdman had warned that many changes would be made to his squad as players needed rest or had to deal with injuries.

We will have the opportunity to observe young players during the Gold Cuphe said after the defeat on Sunday evening.

I’d like to rely on the same group, but that’s not going to happenhe added.

Hutchinson, 40, had announced his participation in the Nations League would be his farewell tour after 104 starts. And Herdman had hinted that Johnston was suffering from an injury he picked up at his club Glasgow Celtic.

Davies missed almost two months of action with a leg injury before returning to the Nations League side. For his part, David is at the center of transfer rumors to a more prestigious club than Lille, for whom he plays in France.

“It’s a tough time,” Herdman said. We have players who could survive big transfers and we’re keeping our fingers crossed for them.

The Briton added that other players need to regain strength.

Sixteen players who competed in the Nations League will be back.

Newcomers who have yet to wear the Canada jersey at senior level include Columbus Crew’s Jacen Russell-Rowe, Vancouver Whitecaps’ Ali Ahmed and Portland Timbers’ Zac McGraw.

FC Basel’s Liam Millar, FC Eindhoven’s Charles-Andreas Brym, CF Montreal’s Zachary Brault-Guillard and Nashville SC’s Jacob Shaffelburg will return to Canada.
