BRUSSELS – Canadian Minister Mélanie Joly is in Brussels on Tuesday and Wednesday to attend the NATO foreign ministers’ meeting.
The Minister’s agenda includes discussions with NATO allies and partners on the security environment and current global challenges, as well as Allied leaders’ priorities for the NATO summit to be held in July.
Minister Joly and her counterparts will also hold a NATO-Ukraine Commission meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on Ukraine’s needs in light of the ongoing Russian invasion.
NATO foreign ministers will also meet with representatives of the Alliance’s four Indo-Pacific partners – Australia, South Korea, Japan and New Zealand – and the European Union (EU) to discuss common security priorities.
Finland will be officially welcomed as a NATO member on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Canada is being pressured by its NATO allies to drastically increase Canadian defense spending to 2% of its gross domestic product (GDP).
