As announced by the President of the Republic, France is mobilizing relief supplies to respond to the request of the Canadian government, which is facing devastating forest fires.
Two detachments totaling one hundred civil security firefighters and rescuers left Marseille today with ten tons of firefighting equipment to fight the blaze in the province of Quebec.
This solidarity action, which is part of the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, is coordinated by the Crisis and Assistance Center of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the General Directorate for Civil Security and Crisis Management of the Ministry of the Interior and Overseas Territories, in collaboration with the Embassy of France in Canada.
These extreme events are a reminder of the need to act in the face of the consequences of worsening climate change, which are affecting more and more sections of the population.
As stated by Mrs. Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, France is taking this opportunity to reaffirm its full solidarity with the Canadian people and authorities.
