The appearance of the 49-year-old defendant should determine whether he is fit to stand trial.
The only witness called is Yu Chen Yue, a psychiatrist from Campbellton’s Restigouche Hospital Center. He has met with the accused several times since August, again on Thursday morning.
The psychiatrist described Ronald Savoy as an unpredictable, mentally ill man with a fixation on religion and death. He believes he is the savior and wants to die for it, explained Dr. Yue.
In his 27-page report, the psychiatrist concludes that Ronald Savoy is not able to stand trial.
Crown prosecutor Louis Plourde did not dispute either the psychiatrist’s report or the defense’s requests.
Defense attorney Luc Roy is pleased with the judge’s decision. It’s a good decision at this point. It was clear that my client was not fit to negotiate. dr Yue’s statement was clear and unambiguous
says Me Roy.
Maybe a trial for Ronald Savoy anyway

The data is in and the negotiation is on [censé] Beginning February 14th. Then when my client is fit we will have a defense and we will defend him
says attorney Luc Roy.
His trial, which is still scheduled, would take place before a judge alone in King’s Bench Court. Meanwhile, Ronald Savoy remains at the Restigouche Hospital Center.
