Saskatchewan National Hockey League (NHL) champion Bryan Trottier realized what he wanted in life when he watched Jean Béliveau win the Stanley Cup for the Montreal Canadiens as a kid, says the man who just published his new book The published title All Roads Home: A life on and off the ice.

I looked at my dad and said, “Dad, I want to win the Stanley Cup like Jean Béliveau.”he said in an interview with CBC.

Over time, the young lad from Val Marie, Sask., has developed into one of the best center players in the league. NHL and had a career spanning 18 seasons.

Bryan Trottier also won six Stanley Cups as a player and a seventh as an assistant coach for the Colorado Avalanche in 2001.

Despite this brilliant journey, this retired hockey player remains humble and true to his Saskatchewan roots.

” Where I come from represents what I have today and hockey was my vehicle. »

In his book, Bryan Trottier looks back at the highlights of his career as an elite Aboriginal player.

Born to an Irish mother and a Cree, Métis and Chippewa father, Bryan Trottier has always felt well received by members of his parents’ communities.

However, he claims to have witnessed racist remarks against Aboriginal people, particularly in the 1950s and 1960s.

Bryan Trottier adds that his parents taught him not to be intimidated by comments about his origins.

He says tomorrow’s Aboriginal hockey players must be proud of their heritage.

” There is so much talent in indigenous communities. I’m very proud of that. Be proud of them too and use these talents as your vehicle. »
