Ontario’s Brooke M. Henderson continued to climb the LPGA Dana Open by delivering one of the best cards of the day on Saturday, while Quebec’s Maude-Aimée Leblanc continued her descent.
Henderson is just outside the top 10 in Sylvania, Ohio, thanks to a cumulative -10. His round of 16 (-6) was his most successful since the start of the tournament. Like the day before, the 24-year-old golfer had a bogey early in the day but missed nothing afterwards. His seven birdies allowed him to position himself in 11th place, four shots from the lead.
Lucy Li’s lead dwindled, but the American held on to first place with a very respectable round of 67 (-4). She finished at -14, just one shot ahead of her compatriot Lexi Thompson and Germany’s Caroline Masson.
New Zealand’s Lydia Ko, who was in the top 3 after 18 holes but lost her outstanding second round, came up for discussion again at the front. She was the top female golfer on the course at Highland Meadows Golf Club on Saturday with a 64 (-7) card. She is fourth with six other rivals at -11.
Leblanc, after narrowly avoiding the cut, stayed bottom with a round of 72 (+1), her worst of the week. Among other things, the Sherbrooke resident suffered a costly triple bogey at the 11th pennant. For the time being, she has to be content with place 70, tied with par.
The other Canadian in the race, Ontario’s Maddie Szeryk, also dropped several places due to a performance of 74 (+3). She ranks 74th and penultimate.
