The traditional Brick Invitational tournament is in full swing this week in Edmonton, Alberta, and as usual, a team from Quebec is on site wearing the colors of the Montreal Canadiens.

Among the players who are part of the “small” Canadiens squad, we find a name that CH fans will quickly recognize.

Brysen Byron, the son of former CH number 41 Paul Byron, is one of the nine forwards in the team for this annual tournament. So far, young Byron, who wears the same number as his father, has collected two points in four games in the competition.

Born in 2014, Brysen Byron rose to fame through a video posted on CH’s YouTube account during the 2023 Skills competition.

Powered by the skills of Liam Tep, the Canadians took home the top honors in 2023. Tep had broken the points record for a single edition (which belonged to a certain Cole Caufield) with 24 in just six games.

However, it would be surprising if the team selected for 2024 could repeat this feat, as they started the tournament with one win in four games.

The Brick Invitational tournament, reserved for players under 10 years old, has been around since 1990 and has featured many of the best players of our generation such as Auston Matthews, Brady Tkachuk, Steven Stamkos, Mitch Marner, Brayden Point, Jonathan Toews and brothers Jack and Quinn Hughes.

Quebecers Jonathan Drouin, Anthony Duclair, Samuel Blais and Maxime Comtois also played for the younger Canadians.

Current CH players Kirby Dach, Alex Newhook, Brendan Gallagher and Caufield also took part in this tournament.
