The Gilles-Chabot Ice Center in Boucherville is home to the Canadian Para Hockey Championships, taking place May 18-21, 2023.
This para hockey competition features the country’s top para hockey athletes in a high level competition. This tournament, being held for the second time in Quebec, will welcome a record number of seven provinces. New Brunswick, which will make its first appearance, joins Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.
Alberta, who have won the national title four times in five editions, will once again seek to establish themselves as one of the best teams in the country. However, the Quebec team, champions in 2022, will be determined to successfully defend their title.
Sports enthusiasts are invited to the arena for free to discover para hockey. Games begin Thursday, May 18 at 9 a.m. ET with Manitoba vs. New Brunswick.
Team Quebec will play their first game at 11am ET against Alberta. Alexis Auclair (Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec), former captain of the Quebec team and member of the men’s national team, will be present at the ceremonial duel of the first game of the team from his province.
Fans can also watch Raphaëlle Tousignant (Terrebonne, Quebec), the first woman to secure a place on the Canada national team. The athlete will represent Canada at the World Para Hockey Championships in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan from May 28 to June 4, 2023.
“We hope people will be there to discover the best Canadians in sled hockey,” said Maxime Gagnon, head of parahockey at Hockey Québec. We’ll pit the top seven provinces against each other and we’re sure fans will appreciate the spectacle.
